Visual Basic (VB) is the third-generation event-driven programming language and integrated development environment (IDE) from Microsoft for its COM programming model. VB is also considered a relatively easy to learn and use programming language, because of its graphical development features and BASIC heritage.

still use Visual Basic 6 too. I also develop some stuff in C but somehow Im familiar with Vb6 and for me it still a perfect RAD tool. I will not move to .NET for various reasons. Maybe I stick with C and AutoIT for small stuff then.

Although VB.NET is gaining ground fast, VB 6 remains a very popular programming environment. The only real problem with using VB 6 is that you really can't buy a copy today. Microsoft just isn't selling them anymore. There's no reason why you can't continue to use VB 6 for as long as you want to however. Microsoft will support the VB 6 environment even on the very latest Vista operating system scheduled to be introduced in 2007.

Visual Basic 6 is still very alive and active. Many business have huge applications written in this great language. Wouldn't it be nice to have current VB6 tutorials and VB6 source code samples? Many people learn this language as their first development language and many use it every day for work.

VB 6 remains a very popular programming environment. But even if it wasn't as great as it is, if you're new to Visual Basic and you have a copy available, it's still a great place to start learning about programming!

Frederick P. Brooks, Jr. is a living legend in software development. His project management created IBM's System/360. And System/360 made IBM the supreme player in computers during the mainframe era. When it was all over, Fred wrote "The Mythical Man-Month" - an uncompromising look back at the project - and changed jobs to found the Computer Science department at the University of North Carolina - his home state. "The Design of Design" is the distillation of his lifetime of achievement.
